Torsten Gütschow (born July 28, 1962) is a German former footballer who played as a striker.

[edit] Playing career
Gütschow was born in Görlitz, East Germany, and began his senior career with SG Dynamo Dresden. He established himself as a prolific goalscorer, forming a successful partnership with Ulf Kirsten, and was the DDR-Oberliga's top scorer for its last three seasons (1989–91). In addition he was named as the last ever East German Footballer of the Year, in 1991. Following reunification, Dynamo moved into the Bundesliga, and Gütschow was a key player, scoring 12 goals in 39 games (a club record at this level), before moving abroad, joining Galatasaray in January 1993. Six months later he was back in Germany, and had spells with FC Carl Zeiss Jena, Hannover 96 and Chemnitzer FC, each for one year. In 1996 he returned to Dynamo Dresden, where he spent three years as the club tried in vain to return to the Bundesliga. He retired from football in 1999.

At international level, Gütschow was capped three times by East Germany, scoring twice.

[edit] Stasi
Gütschow worked as an Inoffizieller Mitarbeiter (paid informant) for the Stasi.[1] This came about after he was arrested in Sweden for drink-driving; the East German authorities offered him a deal where he would be released on condition that he would provide the Stasi with information. However, he immediately confessed this involvement to his team-mates, and promised never to report anything negative about them.

Gütschow is currently coach of TuS 1906 Heeslingen, having joined the club on 1 July 2006. He previously coached FC Oberneuland and VfL Bochum II.
