The term synthesis (from the ancient Greek σύνθεσις σύν "with" and θέσις "placing") is used in many fields, usually to mean a process which combines together two or more pre-existing elements resulting in the formation of something new. The verb would be to synthesize meaning to make or form a synthesis. Synthesis may refer to:

• Philosophy, the end result of a dialectic as in thesis, antithesis, synthesis
• Sound synthesis, various methods of sound generation in audio electronics

• Photosynthesis, the process of making new chemicals bonds utilizing light energy.
• Dehydration synthesis
