Romans-sur-Isère or Romans (Occitan: Rumans d'Isèra[1]; Old Occitan: Romans) is a commune in the Drôme department in southeastern France.

Romans-sur-Isère is twinned with Coalville and is located on the Isère River, 18 km (11 mi) northeast from Valence. There are more than 50,000 inhabitants in the urban area (if the neighboring town of Bourg-de-Péage is included). Romans is near the Vercors (20 minutes away by car).

There is a market in the town center on Friday and Sunday mornings where many regional products are sold, especially fruit during the summer.

[edit] Transportation

Access to the town is easy by the highway between Valence and Grenoble which is free between Valence and Romans, and also by the TGV (high-speed train). There's a TGV station between Valence and Romans, and so it takes at least two hours and twelve minutes to go from Paris to the station, and then approximately ten minutes further by car.
