Religion in Réunion
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The predominant religion in Réunion is Roman Catholicism (86% of the population in 1995), with Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism also represented amongst others. Rastafarism is present, too, but is not officially recognized[citation needed]. Réunion has been subject to crimes committed by Religious extremists, in particularity kidnapping, and also corruption and misuse of influence by religious leaders.[1] In Réunion, all religions are freely practiced, without government persecution.[2] Most large towns have a Mosque, allowing the Muslims communities to practice their religion.[3]
