[edit] Boundaries
It consists of Merionethshire and part of the Conwy valley.
[edit] Boundary review
Following its review of parliamentary representation in Wales, the Boundary Commission for Wales has created the constituency of Dwyfor Meirionnydd to be fought at the next UK general election in 2009 or 2010.
[edit] History
It has the lowest population of any constituency in Wales, and also has the second highest proportion of Welsh-speaking voters. Following the Welsh Boundary Commission's report, this seat is to be abolished for the next General Election, to be replaced in part by Aberconwy and part by Dwyfor Meirionnydd.
[edit] Members of Parliament
From 1983 to 1992, the constituency was represented by Dafydd Elis-Thomas of Plaid Cymru, who now represents Dwyfor Meirionnydd in the National Assembly for Wales and is its Presiding Officer. It is currently represented by Elfyn Llwyd, also of Plaid Cymru, who is the party's leader in the House of Commons. The party's overall leader, Ieuan Wyn Jones, is a former MP, but is now a Member of the Welsh Assembly and Deputy First Minister.
