He is considered an incoming figure of China's fifth generation of leadership.

[edit] Biography

Li graduated with a bachelor degree in Mathematics at Fudan University and a doctoral degree in Economics at Beijing University. He has held the number-one position in Jiangsu since December 2002. At the time he was also concurrently the party chief in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu. During his tenure in Jiangsu, Li assessed local officials in terms of performance measured by social and environmental factors, as opposed to purely economic ones[1]. An ally of President Hu Jintao, Li became the head of the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China after the 17th Party Congress in October 2007.
