Kühlungsborn (German pronunciation: [ˈkyːlʊŋsbɔʁn]) is Seebad (seaside resort) town in the district of Bad Doberan, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is situated on the Baltic Sea coast, 11 km northwest of Bad Doberan, and 25 km northwest of Rostock.
The town has a long beach, many hotels, a long promenade and a marina. It is the largest seaside spa town in Mecklenburg.
Kühlungsborn is a unique mixture of past and present. Old, dilapidated hotels stand next to recent renovations. The charm of this turn of the (last) century tourist spot, however, remains. Whilst a popular mode of transport in the area is the bicycle, it is actually quite difficult to ride in a straight line here as what is available, visually, is very distracting. If the weather is (reasonably) kind, nothing can beat hiring one of the traditional Strandkorb on the beach.
