[edit] Baptism

Three months after his birth in Barcelona, the young member of the Spanish Royal Family was baptized on 12 December 1999 in the city's Zarzuela Palace. ¡Hola! online magazine wrote that the baptism was performed by the Archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela. According to Royal Family tradition, the holy water used to baptize Juan was from the River Jordan.

Juan's godparents include his aunt, the Infanta Elena and his uncle Mikel Urdangarín. He was named Juan in honor of his great-grandfather, the Count of Barcelona and his grandfather, the King of Spain; and Valentín, after his father's great-grand-uncle, Saint Valentín of Berriochoa, or Berriotxoa, and "Todos los Santos" (English: "All Saints") as is customary among the Bourbons. ABC indicated that he was also named Juan to honor his paternal grandfather, Juan Mariá Urdangarín. Sometimes the family, and even the media, call him "Juanito", in line with the common practice for Spanish boys to have the affectionate "ito" added to their names.

[edit] Titles

Since his birth, he has carried the title of "His Excellency Don Juan Valentín, etc. and Grandee of Spain". All of the children of Infanta Cristina and Infanta Elena have the HE Don/Doña title, as befits the children of a Spanish duke. However, even if they do not have the title of Infante or Infanta, all of the grandchildren of King Juan Carlos are members of the Spanish Royal House.

[edit] Personal details

Juan Valentín lives with his parents and his siblings in Barcelona, where he and his brother Pablo Nicolás, after having attended the Carles Riba preschool, are enrolled in the French School. Juan enjoys riding his bike, going to handball games and to Palma de Mallorca for the much-celebrated Spanish Regatta season. He, Pablo Nicolás and another brother, Miguel, are also fans of FC Barcelona.
