J. J. Ross

J. J. Ross was Vice-President of Liberia from 1896 to 1900 under President William D. Coleman, and a former Liberian Senator. He was an African-American from Albany, Georgia[1][2][3] who emigrated to Liberia - on the ship Huma - with his grandmother at about age seven in 1849.[3]
His son was Samuel Alfred Ross, who would later also become Vice President of Liberia.[1]
