The "Club African" was ready to pursue its activities beginning in 1919 but the chosen name the team was going to take: "Islamic Club Africain", delayed the starting procedures. Indeed, this name has been disputed by the french protectorate authorities, since at that time, while Tunisian club had the right to exist it was only with permission from the authorities.

It is, therefore, on October 4, 1920 that the club was officially authorized to operate but his itinerary does not begin on that date. The "Club Africain", as affirmed by some of its founders, is a natural extension of the "Stade Africain" (association founded in 1915 and dissolved in 1918) from which it retains the colors, spirit, a part of the name and a core of players (especially Mohamed Soudani).

The latter is also the chairman of the constituent meeting of the club which was held in a café in Bab Jedid. It is worth noting that the first headquarters of the club is the Makhzen Essouf (deposit of wool), which is located in the district of El Morkadh.
Since its introduction, the demand for authorization was blackmailed as the approval was subject to 3 conditions:

  • The appointment of a French national as a Chairman.
  • Change the color chosen (namely red and white).
  • Renunciation of the national emblem (croissant and star).

It is then forcing clubistes to stand out from any reference to the national flag and alienating its base identity. The terms of this compromise is categorically rejected. Finally, the hard forced the authorities at the time to give the African Club a historic concession on the first two points, namely, Tunisian nationality of the president and his colors. The founding fathers of the club, much more intransigent, finally get win and impose a bureau director entirely Tunisian and chaired by Ben Bachir Mustapha (a first in the sporting history of Tunisia).

without any doubt the club africain has the largest base and the most loved team in Tunisia that's why all clubists over the world are proud to be clubiste and from the most famous songs made by the virage:

  • Commondo (commondo)
  • Hamra tzahina(red make us happy)
  • Kil ada jina(we came as usual)
  • Jouez jouez(play play)
  • samba we tango
