- 8 May - The occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany ends as German forces agree to an unconditional surrender.
- 9 May - Vidkun Quisling, former Minister-President of Norway, appointed by the German authorities, is arrested.
- 31 May - Government returns from exile in London.
- 6 June - King Haakon VII of Norway returns to Norway.
- 25 June - Prime Minister, Johan Nygaardsvold, resigns as Haakon VII appoints Einar Gerhardsen to head an interim government composed of all political parties.
- 24 October - Vidkun Quisling is executed
- November - Elections held.
